Alice Mary McMahon, of La Grange formerly of Indian Head Park, age 86, died August 11th. Cherished daughter of the late Jack and Alice (nee Cullerton) McMahon; dear sister of Jack (Betty) McMahon, Tom (Pat) McMahon , Bill (Jeanne) McMahon and the late Trisha (Donald) Fitzgerald; loving aunt of John (Amira) McMahon and Jennifer (Bret) Baker; Shaine (Curt) Anderson and Collin (Lana) McMahon; Brehan Fitzgerald, Kieran (Ryan) Caraher, Garrett (Jen) Fitzgerald, Patrick Fitzgerald and Bridget Fitzgerald; Katie (Tom) Berry, Marjory (Charley) Bredrup, Jack (Morgan) McMahon, Connor McMahon and Nora McMahon; great aunt of 26 great-nieces and nephews.
Born in Chicago August 6th, 1939, Alice attended and graduated from Resurrection Grammar School in Chicago in 1953. She graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest in 1957 and from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1961. Right after graduation, Alice traveled with friends to Ireland. She always treasured a photograph she had taken that summer of newly-elected President John Fitzgerald Kennedy who was visiting his family's home town of New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland.
Alice earned her Master's Degree in Education from Loyola University and taught in Chicago public schools for 30 years, exclusively at Byrne School on the Southwest side of Chicago. She then worked for the State of Illinois.
Alice was best known for her generosity. She was always willing to babysit, and delighted in giving presents to her many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Aunt Alice, we will always love you and miss you.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Rd, Western Springs at 11:00 a.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Misericordia Home (www.misericordia.com). Arrangements entrusted to the Original Kuratko Family-Brian D. Kuratko, Funeral Director.
