Bess S. Peterson, 95, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on January 3, 2026, in Hinsdale, Illinois, beloved wife of the late Michael Peterson, whom she missed dearly every day. Loving mother of Bruce (Wendy), Glenn (Laurel Ann), James (Marilee), and Paul (Meg). Proud YiaYia of Sam (Jessica), Michael, George (Cassandra), Allison, Franklin (Stephanie), Ryan (Kristina), Alexis (Jarrett) Kerr, Olivia (Sean) Kenny, Lauren (Matt) Thill, Vanessa (Bobby) Hasse, Amanda (fiancé Nickalas Karis) and the late Jaclyn; Great-YiaYia to Layna, Brecken, Leonardo, Finnegan, Iris, Declan, Seamus, Caden, Nikolai, Ryan, Charlotte, Bruce, Violetta, Colt, Chloe, Trent, Connor, and Hazel.

Born May 27, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, Bess married Mike on June 10, 1951, and they moved their family to Hinsdale, Illinois, in 1965. Bess lived a long and full life centered around family, faith, and the many people she loved.

Bess showed her love through food, and her Greek cooking was legendary - her avgolemono soup was a favorite of her great-grandchildren. She delighted in bringing meals to family and friends and stopping by for visits with good conversation. Bess was a devoted member of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Westchester, Illinois, since 1965. She was an avid sports fan (White Sox and Bears) and also a skilled bridge player, known for her focus and competitiveness, not to mention her frequent victories.

Above all, Bess loved her family fiercely and her devotion to those she loved left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

We will celebrate Bess' life on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Bronswood Cemetery in Hinsdale immediately following the service.
