Deborah “Debbie” Hunsinger, age 71, passed away after a lifelong battle of health issues that were always met gracefully. Deborah was surrounded by family, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital – San Martin Campus in Las Vegas, NV on September 6th, 2026. Debbie was born in Chicago, IL on November 15th, 1954 and was the beloved daughter of the late Glen and Betty Grumstrup. A Birthday she shared with her father, Glen. Debbie was also the older sister to her brother, Glen Grumpstrup, by four years. Debbie graduated from Willowbrook High School – Villa Park, IL in 1972. Upon graduation, Debbie started her working career as a secretary for GATX based out of Chicago. Debbie worked at GATX for 14 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom raising her 3 boys. Debbie saved diligently and was very proud of the condo she purchased in Woodridge, IL shortly after beginning her time at GATX. This condo would later turn into the foundation of the house that was built for her family.
During her time at the Woodridge condo, Debbie met her soon to be husband, Fred Hunsinger. The two got married on January 4th, 1986 at First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove, Illinois. The two celebrated 38 years of marriage before Fred’s passing in 2024. Together they raised three sons, Ryan, Tyler and Kyle, and Debbie’s investment in the condo helped lay the ground that their house was built on in Joliet, IL in 1991. Debbie had a great love for her kids and considered those days as the happiest days of her life. She was a devoted mother who did anything and everything for her kids until the day she passed. As a mom of three boys, much of her time was spent at the baseball field and basketball courts, in attendance for every game the boys had. Debbie was a big Chicago Bulls fan and an even bigger Michael Jordan fan.
Her second career was born out of her desire to be with her kids. Debbie worked at Grand Prairie Elementary School as a lunchroom supervisor where her three boys attended. She started her time with Grand Prairie when the boys began school and loved the role so much that she stayed there for 10 years after the boys moved on.
Debbie is survived by her three sons, Ryan (Ash Blackburn) Hunsinger, Tyler Hunsinger, and Kyle (Liliya Pytel) Hunsinger; her granddaughter, Luciana Hunsinger; and her two grandsons, Remi Blackburn and William Hunsinger. She is preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Glen Grumstrup; and her father and mother-in-law, Woodrow and Betty Hunsinger; and her husband, Fred Hunsinger.
All friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Debbie’s life on Friday November 13th. As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded in the morning, and Debbie’s ashes will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery beside her husband Fred, in Elwood, IL at 11:00am, requiring arrival at 10:45am. Also out of respect to her wishes, Debbie did not want a traditional visitation, so her sons will be hosting a celebration of life in the evening at a private room inside Salerno’s Pizza, 9301 W 63rd St Hodgkins, IL 60525 starting at 6pm and wrapping up at 9:30pm. While not required, her sons are asking for a text or email ahead of time for Friday evenings attendance to help figure out food and headcount. Please email kylehunsy@gmail.com or text / call (779) 875-9235, you can also reach out with any questions you might have.
