Demetra Phelus, nee Koclanis, formerly of Glenview, age 98. Beloved wife of the late Dean G. Phelus; loving mother of George (Ann Perks) and Theodore (Anne) Theophilos; proud grandmother of Dean (Leigh-Ann), Jamie and George; great-grandmother of Theo and Miah; preceded in death by her siblings Poppy (late James) Savoy, George (late Freida) Koclanis and Bessie Koclanis; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Demetra graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Lucy Flower High School in 1942. Upon graduating high school she was hired by the RR Donnelley & Sons Company and worked at the famous Lakeside Plant in the controller's office.  In 1953 she and her husband Dean moved from Chicago to Glenview where they were active members of the then newly formed Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church parish.  Upon her sons entering high school, Demetra reentered the workforce and became a secretary at the College of Education at Northwestern University.  A lifelong learner Demetra would read two or three books a week.  She prided civility and dignified comportment as indispensable virtues and labored to inculcate those values in her family. All to meet Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester at 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
