Obituary

Don L. Catberro, age 71, of Indiana, formerly of Naperville. Beloved husband of Valentina (nee Spiwak) Catberro. Loving father of Bryan Catberro and Cassie (Josh) Heiss. Proud grandfather of Brianna and Bennett Heiss and bonus grandfather to Hunter and Hayden Heiss.  Dear brother of Donna (late Jerry) Wilson. Fond uncle of Chris (Yvette) Wilson, Dana Wilson (Jonathon Temps), and Jason Wilson. Dear brother-in-law of Catherine Spiwak and Phillip (Belinda) Spiwak. Uncle of Kristin (Tristan) Marshall, Michelle Fege (fiancé Josh Downey), late Michael Fege, Zachary and Samantha Spiwak. Kind great-uncle to Emma, Hannah and Claire Wilson, Andrew Temps, and Bowie Marshall. Preceded in death by his parents Louis and Waunell (nee Crockett) Catberro.

Don was an honest, hardworking, humble, and soft-spoken man whose quiet strength and kindness touched everyone who knew him. He lived his life with integrity, always striving to do what was right and putting the needs of others before his own. His gentle nature, unwavering love for his family and friends, and generous heart will be remembered forever.

Don found joy in life's simple pleasures — fishing, caring for his beloved animals, admiring classic cars, and spending time outdoors. His passion for cars ultimately led him to the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Val. While Don managed an auto shop, Val worked for Enterprise and regularly brought vehicles in for service. After many attempts to win her over — including jokingly offering faster service in exchange for a date — he finally convinced her to join him for a picnic. That thoughtful and heartfelt gesture stole her heart. In 1986, Don and Valentina were united in marriage and spent the next 40 years building a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. Together they created a loving family and raised two children who meant absolutely everything to Don.

In 2020, Don proudly walked his daughter down the aisle as she married the love of her life, Josh — a moment he treasured deeply. Over the years, Don and Josh formed a close and loving bond built on respect, laughter, and genuine friendship. Josh became not only a son-in-law to Don, but truly a son in his heart. Later, becoming a grandfather brought him even greater happiness. His "little princess" and "tiger" were the light of his life, and he cherished every snuggle, giggle, and precious moment spent with them.

In his final days, Don was surrounded by the family he loved so deeply — his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and beloved grandchildren. Those precious moments together brought him immense happiness and comfort. Nothing filled his heart more than watching his grandchildren play, hearing their laughter, and feeling the love of his family around him.

Don passed peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side with love in his final moments. Though his family's hearts are broken, they find comfort in knowing he left this world wrapped in the same love, warmth, and devotion that he so freely gave throughout his life. His kindness, gentle spirit, and unconditional love will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
