Obituary

Donna Baffoe McDonald, 77, of Countryside, Illinois, passed peacefully on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Donna was truly one of a kind—a force of nature whose life was defined by her faith, humor and generosity. Born on July 6, 1948, to Michael and Margaret Baffoe, she grew up on the south side of Chicago and was the oldest of ten siblings—a distinction she wore with pride.

A trailblazer in every sense, Donna earned her bachelor's degree from Clarke College in Iowa and went on to receive her law degree from Northern Illinois University, at a time when women in the profession were few. She would practice law for 45 years, a distinguished career spent helping countless clients—often pro bono. Generous to a fault, she was always ready to lend a hand both legally and personally.

Donna was stunning inside and out. She embraced joy and loved to dance, sing and host any kind of gathering. Her radiant smile and infectious laugh drew people to her wherever she went. Even in her final days, she faced her journey with humor, grace, and unwavering faith, charming her care team and demonstrating her signature strength.

Above all else, Donna's greatest love was her children and grandchildren. She was the rock of her family—the keeper of traditions, the creator of memories, and the center of every celebration. No matter the moment or the need, Donna was always there.

Donna leaves behind a legacy of kindness, independence, and resilience that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

She is survived by her loving children, Meegan (Howard) Schlacks, Sarah (George) Bergquist, James McDonald, Ellen (Victor) Flores; her adored grandchildren Emily, Sarah, Margaret, Nora, Brigid, and Duke; and her siblings Michaelene Kelly, Marybeth Davis, Eugene Baffoe, Daniel Baffoe, and Joseph Baffoe. Donna was preceded in death by her precious daughter Betsy, her beloved parents and sister Denise Murray, and her little brothers Ed Baffoe, Duke Baffoe, and Matthew Baffoe.

All who knew and loved Donna are invited to join us in celebrating her life. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, Illinois. Arrangements are entrusted to Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home (708-F-U-N-E-R-A-L).

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages honoring Donna's generous spirit by considering a donation to AMOR Healing Kitchen, which helps provide food to those facing critical health challenges. We believe this would be a fitting tribute to her extraordinary life and lifelong commitment to helping others.
