Obituary

Edward H. King of Westchester formerly of Berwyn, age 87. Beloved husband of Betty, nee Jilek; loving father of Lisa A. (Steve) Carrigan and David E. King; proud grandfather of Brooke A. Carrigan; dear brother of Bernardine (late Scott) Baird; brother-in-law of Edward R. (Noi) Jilek; fond uncle of Dawn (Dan) Miller, Eric (Keziah) Baird and Wade (Alina) Baird; great-uncle of Reagan Miller.

Ed King was raised in Cicero and lived in Berwyn while raising daughter Lisa and son David.  He was very proud of the crystal-clear water filtered through a custom-made filter system in the Berwyn backyard pool, where many hours were spent enjoying friends and fun in the sun, while drinking King Coolers.  Ed and Betty moved to the house of their dreams in Westchester in 1999 with the help of their Berwyn neighbor, and relator Tom Hodina.

He attended Morton East High school, UCLA (University of Cicero located on Austin) and earned a master's degree in business from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in River Forest.  Betty and Ed were high school sweethearts and were married for 66 loving years.  He played basketball at the Cicero Stadium, and baseball in Cicero Park District leagues.

Ed was the vice president of sales at Industrial Filter & Pump Mfg. Co. in Cicero.  He faithfully worked there for 51 years.  He was a man of many jokes, a storyteller and he had a contagious laugh that could be heard down Harvey Ave., where many long-lasting friendships were built.

Grandpa Ed was a loving grandfather to his only grandchild Brooke.  He cheered for Michigan State University (MSU) Spartans football and basketball teams, while wearing MSU gear.  He proudly attended Brooke's White Coat Ceremony at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and was pleased with her accomplishments.

He was the lover of animals.  Ed and Betty always had pets in the family, and he cherished his Zena the Wonder Dog.  Zena came into their household with the loving reference from Cousin Shirley and the Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation.  Zena, or Gina as he called her, and Ed were inseparable.  She sat with him, faithfully in his recliner.

Ed was the loving dad of dads, enjoyed playing poker and gin rummy.  He was an avid sports fan and cheered for the White Sox, while Betty is a hard-core Cubs fan.  It was a divided house.  Ed loved the beach, and enjoyed swimming in the ocean when visiting his beloved sister Berdie in Newport Beach, CA.   Ed and Betty enjoyed boating and water skiing on Lake Michigan with Cliff and Lee Parilek as well as Lake Big Crawling Stone in Minocqua, Wisconsin with dear friends Bruce and Hughie Durham.

Ed loved to shop for his girls, and enjoyed sitting for fashion shows when Betty and Lisa were deciding on outfits or purchases and always had candid responses.  His signature drink was an Absolute martini with two olives and a twist.  Let's all toast to Ed King, an all-around great guy, loving husband, father and grandfather.
