Obituary

Eleni Giannakopoulos, age 15, of Lemont, was a vibrant, radiant light — a girl who moved through the world on her own terms, with grace, joy, and an unshakeable sense of herself. Even through the challenges life placed before her, Eleni refused to let them define her days. She chose — again and again — to live fully: attending school, showing up for family celebrations, and savoring every moment with her closest friends.

A student at Lemont High School, Eleni had a natural gift for connection. She valued friendship, loyalty, and kindness above all, and had the rare ability to make people feel truly seen wherever she went. Her humor arrived at exactly the right moment — the kind that cuts through a hard day and reminds you that everything will be okay. Her gentle soul left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

Eleni was a passionate and gifted ballet dancer who trained at the Hinsdale Dance Academy. In 2023, she was recognized at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) for her classical pointe performance in La Fille Mal Gardée , reflecting the elegance, discipline, and dedication she brought to everything she loved. She was equally accomplished on the golf course, claiming first place in the girls' tournament in her age group in 2022. A talented musician as well, she played both piano and guitar and was honored to perform at the Kennedy Center and the Ryman Auditorium with her music academy, Allegro. Whatever she pursued, Eleni gave it her whole heart.

She had a deep love of travel and adventure, relishing every opportunity to explore the world alongside her family. Eleni was happiest in the sun — feet in the sand, feeling the warmth of the sun and mist of the ocean waves, at peace. The ocean gave her something nothing else could, and those moments by the shore were among her most cherished with those she loved. When she could no longer dance, or play golf, Eleni channeled that same energy and love into the people around her — immersing herself in friendships, discovering a passion for skincare and fashion, and becoming the person her friends turned to for a fresh set of nails. She gave that care freely and joyfully, and it was entirely her.

Above all, Eleni was a treasured daughter, sister, granddaughter, and niece. As triplets, Eleni, Niko, and Georgia shared a rare and extraordinary bond, having entered the world together and growing up side by side through every stage of life. Their connection was shaped through countless conversations about life and their dreams, travels, international family golf trips, hiking adventures, and shared experiences. Together they shared a wide circle of friends and loved nothing more than hanging out with each other, whether grabbing a drink from 7 Brew or dreaming about the freedom that would come with a driver's license. They were each other's constants, and that love was a foundation Eleni carried with her always.

Her friends and family will forever cherish her spirit, her ability to make people laugh in the moment they needed it most, and her kindness and gentle soul. She also shared a special bond with the family dog, Harmony, who adored her in return and could often be found snuggled close by her side. She will be remembered not for the time taken from her, but for the radiance she brought to every moment she was given.

Eleni is survived by her beloved parents, Sotirios "Sam" and Angela (née Paros) Giannakopoulos; her loving triplet siblings, Niko and Georgia; her cherished grandparents, Georgia and Sarantos Giannakopoulos and Eleni Apostolou and Peter Paros; her proud aunt and uncle, Eleni (Matt) Hernandez and Ted (Stacy) Paros; and her dear cousins, Natalia, Melina, and Valentina Paros and Mary and Niko Hernandez.

"She chose to live — and she did."
