Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Hornbogen peacefully died on September 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 81 years old.  Elizabeth was born on August 19, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to Clement and Marianne (Renzi) Lindrum. She was the eldest sister of William (Arlene) Lindrum and Caroline Knapp. Her parents and brother preceded her in death.

Elizabeth was a 1961 graduate of Siena High School in Chicago, Illinois. She was a member of Divine Infant Church in Westchester.

Elizabeth met the love of her life, William Hornbogen, while they were on a group date in high school. They were married January 13, 1962, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Chicago, Illinois.  They moved to suburban Westchester, Illinois where they raised their four children: Sharon, William Jr, Rebecca, and John. Over the next 60 years, William was always by Elizabeth's side until his death on November 12, 2021.

Elizabeth was a devoted grandmother of seven grandchildren: Taylor, Ryan, Amanda, Alexandra, Samantha, Maya, and Ethan. She always beamed with pride when she was surrounded by her grandkids.

Elizabeth was the ultimate "Mom", teaching her kids and grandchildren everything from family recipes to Beethoven sonatas, to sewing on buttons. Much to the delight of her grandchildren, she was a Harry Potter fan and would read from the books during their lunches or whenever it was "Night at Grandma and PaPa's House."

Elizabeth is survived by; her children Sharon (Joseph) Skierkiewicz, William D. Jr. (Gina), Rebecca (Daniel) Hankiewicz, and John (Abigail); her grandchildren; her beloved sister, Carolyn Knapp; and her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
