Obituary

Eloy was born in Lima, Peru on June 25, 1944 to Alejandro and Margarita Ocaña.  He was the second child of ten:  Esther, Eloy, Marta, José Andrés, Maria Isabel (Chabuca), Nelly, Sara, Felipe, Laura, and Betty. At a very early age, he began working in the fields and taking care of the cows.  He would bring his father lunch on the worksite.  His father would continue working and Eloy would go to school in the afternoon. In his teen years, he was introduced to soccer which became his passion.  He was very good at it.

As the conditions in his home country went downhill, Eloy saw there was no future there for him.  He decided he needed to improve his life and traveled to the United States, settling in Chicago in 1969. It was there where he accepted the Lord and got baptized that same year.  He never stopped serving the Lord.  He was an elder, a deacon and a Sabbath School teacher.

He loved to give bible studies, also made many trips back and forth to pick people up to go to church.  He was always looking to help anyone he could.  When he heard of anyone going through hardships, he would open his wallet to see if he could give them anything to help them.

In December 1970 Eloy met Miriam at a social at the Central Church in Chicago. Their eyes met and 6 months later on June 27, 1971 they were married by Pastor Lucas Diaz.  He was a very caring and devoted husband.

Their first child was born on August 15, 1972, a daughter they named Miriam Daisy.  She brought so much joy and happiness into his life when she started talking.  She would always yell out the window when he left for work: "Bye Daddy. I love you!"  She always wanted to wait for him outside when it was time for him to come home.

On November 11, 1975 his son Eloy Alexander was born.  They called him Juni, short for junior.  Eloy's happiness was doubled.  He loved feeding and burping him.  When Juni could walk, Eloy would chase him to try to get him dressed and put a coat on him.

Eloy would play soccer near the lakefront every Sunday and the family would go cheer him on. He loved watching boxing and the family would get together to watch big fights.  He loved music and he would dance around the house.  Even when he was sick, he would show off his dance moves if he heard one of his favorite songs come on.

Eloy gained a daughter when Juni married Rocio Gutierrez in Oct 1997, and gained a son when Daisy married Julio Javier Rivera in May 1998.

On April 29,1999 Eloy became a grandpa for the first time when his oldest grandchild was born, Jordan Matthew Rivera. He was blessed by 5 more grandchildren after that:  Christian Alexander Ocana, Ethan Daniel Ocana, Jonah Thomas Rivera, Alessi Danielle Ocana and Ellie Victoria Ocana.  He stated that his life was complete with his own family and his own little world.

Unfortunately, his world came crashing down on him when this very cruel disease attacked his brain and erased everything he was and knew, but he always remembered God and prayer.

Eloy, you have been a great son, a caring brother, a good uncle, the very best husband I could ask for, so devoted and loving with Daisy and Juni, but most of all, your pride and joy that glowed in you with your grandchildren.

You are the brightest star shining and guiding us. You always will be guiding our path and forever in our hearts and we all say bye "Eloy", "Daddy" and "Grandpa." We love you.
