Emmanuel O. Famakinwa of Westchester, age 76. Beloved husband of Josephine B. Famakinwa (nee) Stephen; loving father of Everton (Arthur) Swearing, Michael (Traci) Bray, Olufunke (Dana) Bolton, Ayodele, Opeoluwa (Joan) Odebiyi, Joyce, Michelle and Michael (Lucia); proud grandfather of Tiara, Gabrielle, Kennedy, Raymond and Kathleen; dear brother of Pastor & Mrs Olakunle Famakinwa, Dr. & Mrs. Bolaji Famakinwa, Ms. Aderomi Adeleye, Mrs. Ibironke Adewulola Famakinwa-Elabor, Mrs. Shola Famakinwa-Duroti, Ms. Muinat Dosu, the late Gladstone Olumuyiwa Famakinwa and the late Samuel Bolanle Famakinwa; fond uncle of many.
Emmanuel was born in Lagos, Nigeria to Samuel Olarodemi Famakinwa and Beatrice Olufunke Famakinwa. He left Nigeria in the early 1970s. He helped bring several family members to the U.S., and guided his younger siblings. Emmanuel and Josephine built a marriage that lasted 38 years.
Emmanuel came to the U.S. to further his education and graduated from Chicago State University with a bachelor's degree. He later earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Roosevelt University in Chicago. He served in various managerial roles at local banks, but was eventually able to channel his passion for helping others into a career in nursing, which began in 1996.
He dedicated much of his life to caring for patients at a number of healthcare organizations. Throughout his career, he instilled the value of hard work into his children.
Emmanuel greatly valued education. He organized weekly after school library trips when his children were younger. He often encouraged family members to pursue higher education and stay abreast of the current news cycle.
He was a man of faith and was a proud member of Westchester Bible Church for many years. After retiring from his nursing career, he spent some time volunteering at the church.
Emmanuel was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was known as the peacemaker of the family, and took a true interest in the lives of the people around him. Those who had the pleasure of spending time with him often remarked on his kind and compassionate nature. His integrity and unwavering love for his family and friends will not be forgotten.
Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd. Westchester, IL 60154 on Friday, July 17th, 2026 from 2:00 PM. to 7:00 PM. with a Service of Songs beginning at 5:00 p.m.
All are asked to meet Saturday, July 18th, 2026 at Westchester Bible Church, 10600 W. Cemak Rd. Westchester, IL 60154 for the Funeral Service beginning at 10:00 AM, sharp.
