Obituary

George G. Pappas of Oak Brook formerly of Wheaton, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. Proud U.S. Army Veteran. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Estelle; loving father of Dheanna (Dr. George) Fikaris, Michele (John) Glavanovits and Laina (Michael) Krabbe; proud grandfather of Maria (Quinn), Justin, Michael (Clare), Jeremy, Joshua, Faith and Austin; great-grandfather of Gigi, Henry and Molly; dear brother of Steven (Irene) Pappas and the late James (late Martha) Pappas; fond uncle and cousin of many.

Born into humble beginnings, George began working as a newlywed in his family's cherished business, Pappas Sweet Shop. By day, he helped run the shop; by night, he pursued education—steadfastly working toward his licensure in real estate appraising. He would go on to dedicate his life to this profession, eventually founding Pappas & Associates, a respected appraisal firm he operated with integrity and pride for over 40 years.

A gifted athlete, George earned a full football scholarship to the University of Wisconsin and later played football for a semi-professional team and was drafted by the New York Jets before marrying the love of his life, Barbara in 1964.

While George achieved great success in business, his and Barbara 's ultimate calling was service to the church. Their shared faith guided their lives and brought meaning to everything they did, leaving a legacy not only of achievement but of deep, unwavering devotion to God and community. George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
