Obituary

Harley M. Schinker, age 77, of Mokena. United States Navy Veteran. Beloved husband of Janice (nee Nowak) Schinker and the late Vivian (nee Srebo) Schinker. Loving father of Brian (Michele) Schinker and Elizabeth (Michael) Hackett. Proud grandfather of Lauren and Sara Schinker and Cassandra "Cassie", Madison and Erin Hackett. Devoted stepfather of Lisa (Ken Marcin) Lorek. Step-grandfather of Alexander and Dylan Lorek and Kenny and Meaghan Marcin. Harley was a highly recognized Chicago Police Officer and retired as the Commander of the 008 District. He also was the Police Chief for the Long Beach Mississippi Police Department during Hurricane Katrina and also served as the Police Chief for the Lyons (IL) Police Department. Harley was also an adjunct professor at Governors State University, Joliet Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi where he taught in the law enforcement program. Harley enjoyed his time as a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus of St. Mary Church in Mokena.  A Funeral Mass was held on Monday December 16, 2024 at St. Patricia Church in Hickory Hills.  Entombment was at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harley's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital Chicago at www.shrinerschildrens.org would be appreciated.
