Isabelle
Godinez
Dec 22, 1928 — Jan 6, 2026
Chicago
Isabelle Godinez, nee Serrano, of Chicago, age 97. Beloved wife of the late Robert; Loving mother of Belle Godinez-Garcia (Kelly Plummer); Proud grandmother of Raymond (Jennifer) Garcia and Alexander (Courtney) Garcia; Great-grandmother of Noah, Dominic and Damian; Dear sister of Juanita Garcia and Maria de la Luz, and the late Aurora Barrera, Ramon Serrano, Bernardino Gomez, Jose Claro Gomez, Anastacio Gomez and Pablo Gomez; Sister-in-law to the late Mercedes Guerrero; Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews, and beloved Nina, comadre and friend to many family, neighbors and friends.
Isabelle Godinez was born on December 22, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to Dolores Fabian and Daniel Serrano. She died on January 6, 2026, in her home following devoted and round-the-clock care from her daughter, Belle, and family. From the beginning, Isabelle radiated kindness, strength and grace. She carried these qualities with her throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she met.
Isabelle was married to the late Robert Godinez for 43 years until his death in 1994. Despite being a widow at 66, she spent the next 30 years of her life focused on being the best mother, "Mana," friend and neighbor to everyone in her life. Everyone was better off for knowing and loving, and being loved by, Isabelle.
She spent 40-plus years working at Peanut Specialty, a candy factory, followed by bindery company Josten's until her retirement in 1993. Following her retirement, she committed herself to family and was a trusted child care provider for her grandsons, as well as nephews, Angelo Espinoza, Mark Garza and Ruben Godinez. She also served as the general manager and "head neighborhood investigator" for Mary Ann's Hot Dog Stand for 20 years. She was a dedicated member of the Azteca Lady Lions Club for many years and served the community by volunteering her time and efforts in various capacities.
Her greatest joy came from being with her family, where her presence was the heart of every gathering. Isabelle's life was a blessing and her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
