Joanne C. Pekras, nee Couretas, 86. Beloved wife and best friend of Thomas for 63 amazing years; loving mother of Patty (James, M.D.) McConnell, D.D.S.; proud and adoring grandmother of Megan and Kristin McConnell; dear daughter of the late Louis and Alexandra Couretas; dear sister of the late Chris Couretas; devoted Godmother of seven; beloved aunt and cousin and a loyal and true friend to many. She was a true believer in the Lord and her Christian upbringing. Joanne graduated from Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University. She later received a degree in Dental Hygiene from Harper College. Joanne was a teacher in elementary education and a dental hygienist for 35 years until her retirement at age 72. Joanne loved being with family and friends and enjoyed her time at their vacation home in St. Joseph, MI. She was an outstanding baker, seamstress and quilter and enjoyed sewing beautiful costumes for family and friends and dresses for the underprivileged. Her acquaintances were always amused by her keen wit. Joanne graciously shared many of her delicious recipes with others and was noted for her chocolate chip cookies. Our family is deeply appreciative of the loving care provided for Joanne by Barbara, her other caregivers and Residential Hospice. Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All to meet Monday at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester for a Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
