John A. Battisto, age 81, of Oak Park. Beloved husband of the late Georgeine (nee Rizzo). Devoted son of the late Rocco and Jennie (nee Scuccimarri). Loving father of Marisa (Jesus) Munoz. Proud "Papa" of Giovanni Munoz III and Nathan Michael Munoz. Dear brother of Jack (Janet) Battisto, Anna (Ronnie) Slechta, and the late Vito (late Ann) Battisto. Fond uncle of Connie (Kent) Disher, Eileen Kelly, Michael Slechta, Genevieve (Marty) Szuck and the late Joseph (Diane) Battisto. Also survived by his best friend Jerry Mitvalsky (who called John "Rod") and his other best friend, the late Leo Linhart.
John retired after 30 years of service to the Department of Public Safety at Loyola Hospital in Maywood and was the personal bodyguard to Cardinal Joseph Bernardin during his eminence stay at Loyola during his cancer treatment. John received numerous awards and citations for courage, bravery, lifesaving and meritorious service.
John was a huge Bears and Cubs fan and his proudest moments were spent with his grandsons Gio and Nathan and he was so proud of his daughter Marisa! John was known for his craving of Oreo McFlurries and his chicken nuggets, medium fries and a coke meal.
Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home 10501 W. Cermak Road, Westchester on Tuesday April 7, 2026 from 3:00pm until time of some special words of remembrance and memories will be shared at 7:00pm. Friends are encouraged to wear the colors of the Chicago Bears or the Chicago Cubs for his visitation. Funeral Wednesday 9:00am from the funeral home to Ascension Catholic Church in Oak Park for a Mass at 10:00am. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
