Obituary

John D. Hopkins was born in Chicago on January 7, 1939, to Edward (CPD) and Mary (nee Connolly) Hopkins.   Raised in Rogers Park and a proud graduate of Loyola Academy, Class of 1957, John served honorably in the U.S. Army. In September of 2024 he traveled to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight.    John moved to Merritt Island, FL in the early 1970s and was a parishioner at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a 65-gallon donor to One Blood, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  He was a cousin to the Connolly family who emigrated from Kysalia, Kilkerrin, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland and the Hopkins family who emigrated from Dooleeg, Crossmolina, County Mayo, Ireland and who now reside far and wide.  John is the last of his generation for the Hopkins family.

Two masses will celebrate John's life.  The first mass will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL on Wednesday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. EST.  A second mass will be held on Saturday, February 8th at 10:00 a.m. CST at Mater Christi Catholic Church/ St. Paul VI Parish, 2401 S 10th Ave, North Riverside, IL, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, ℅ Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953.
