Kay
Bobis
Mar 12, 1941 — May 1, 2025
Plainfield
Sandra Kay Bobis, age 84, of Plainfield, passed May 1, 2025. Beloved wife of James for 63 years; loving mother of Greg (Amy) Bobis, Cathy (Steve) Anderson, Mari (Micheal) Haven and Lisa Bobis; proud grandmother of Andrew (Ben), Megan, Alex, Jordan (Lisa), Austin, Aaron, Molly and Sam; daughter of the late Raymond and Mabel Henderson; loving sister of Wilma Thomas and her late brothers Bill and Ralph Henderson. Kay grew up in central Illinois and was a graduate of Tolono Unity High School. She attended Julia F. Burnham College, pursuing a nursing career. She met the love of her life on a blind date to a Count Basie concert and they were married in 1961. Jim and Kay settled in Downers Grove to raise their family. Kay was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, cherishing these roles with her compassionate, calm, soft-spoken nature, her warm smile, wit and sense of humor. She had a passion for caring for people. Deciding to go back to school, Kay earned her RN at the College of DuPage School of Nursing and was one of the first nurses hired at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where she worked for over 20 years. Kay and Jim were active members of the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. Music was a very important part of their life and Kay was a devoted member of the church choir for 60 years. She also sang with the Hellenic Choral Society and the West Suburban Symphony Chorus. Kay and Jim actively encouraged the love of music in their children, and they drove them to weekly music lessons for many years. Favorite pastimes included family bike trips, trips to downtown Chicago for museums and concerts, gardening, baking, sewing, traveling, card games, hosting family get-togethers and decorating for Christmas. Kay genuinely loved being with people, enjoyed the seniors' group at church, going to music performances and spending time outdoors, whether it be a walk at the Arboretum, a baseball game with family, or enjoying a glass of wine with neighbors on the deck. Her kindness, friendship and joyful personality will be dearly missed. Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All to meet Thursday, May 8 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester, IL 60154 for 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Suburban Symphony, Holy Apostles Philoptochos or a charity of your choosing. Arrangements entrusted to Chris J. Balodimas, Funeral Director.
