Kenneth F.
Reynolds
Nov 22, 1935 — Aug 26, 2026
North Riverside
Kenneth F. Reynolds, 90, North Riverside, passed away Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Arlene M. (nee Sychta); loving father of Janet Reynolds, Thomas (Rebecca) Reynolds and William (Lisa) Reynolds; proud grandfather of Henry (Elizabeth), Sarah, Rudy, Brian and Elias; great-grandfather of Justin, Jayson and Jameson.
Ken was born on November 22, 1935, in Oak Park, the son of Lester and Marguerite (Anosky) Reynolds. He grew up on Chicago's west side and graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Chicago, in 1953. In 1953, Ken enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, training at the El Toro Marine Air Corps base in Irvine, California and receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. Serving as a Marine was an experience Ken was especially proud of throughout his life, and the work ethic and discipline he acquired in the Marine Corps were values that he instilled in his children.
After the Marines, Ken attended the University of Wyoming for two years before returning to Chicago where he married the love of his life, Arlene, in 1959. The couple settled down in Berwyn, IL where they raised three children and lived happily until moving to North Riverside in 1993 to enjoy their retirement. Throughout his life, Ken enjoyed playing football, boxing, basketball, and especially baseball, a passion that led him to form life-long friendships with his Trojan teammates whose company he enjoyed for the remainder of his life. Ken's love of baseball culminated in an invitation to try out for the Detroit Tigers where he met one of his most beloved baseball heroes, Al Kaline. Although the tryout did not conclude the way Ken had hoped it would, it remained a precious memory for the rest of his life.
Throughout his career working for the Sunbeam Manufacturing Company and later the Helene Curtis Company, Ken remained active playing softball, volleyball, jogging, and countless hours of pick-up basketball games with his sons and their friends. In addition to his love of sports, Ken and Arlene also enjoyed traveling, especially out west to California, Utah's Bryce Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, and Banff National Park in Canada.
After his wife Arlene passed in 2007, and when Ken's traveling days were over, he enjoyed more than anything else spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all affectionately referred to him as "GG" and who will miss Ken dearly.
