Kenneth Uhlir of LaGrange Park formerly of Forest Park, age 60. Loving father of Carlyn, Franklin and William; preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Helen (nee Randall) Uhlir and step-mother, Marilyn; dear brother of Bill (late Kathy), Cathy (Craig) Cooper, John (Sarah) and Andrew (Jill); lifelong friend to the mother of their children, Chris; fond uncle, great-uncle and friend to many. As a father, Ken prioritized sharing all of the positive experiences that life had to offer, big or small, with his children. Teaching the do's and don'ts of life, dealing with adversity, and how to live with dignity and respect for yourself and others were all at the core of his mission as "dad." Harboring a true love for the outdoors and all that it offered, Ken instilled a fond appreciation for nature in his three children with summer fishing trips, walks through snowy forests, and endless other activities. Aside from being a tremendous family man, Ken used his innate talent for teaching and leadership to bring a love of the game of volleyball to countless athletes for over a decade, and in doing so left an indelible mark on so many lives. As an athlete himself, he will be remembered as a fantastic teammate and an enduring, positive presence on each team he was a part of. Above all else, however, Ken Uhlir will best be remembered for the simpler things; his smile, infectious laughter, witty remarks, and an exuberant presence, wherever he may have been.
