Obituary

Kevin O'Mara Walsh, a devoted father, cherished grandfather, faithful friend, and pillar of his community, passed away suddenly of natural causes on June 27, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born on March 25, 1949, to John and Loretta Walsh, Kevin grew up with a strong foundation of faith, family, and education. He graduated from Fenwick High School before earning his degree from John Carroll University. Following college, he began his professional career working alongside his family at PM Walsh & Co. He later served in the Cook County Assessor's Office before discovering his true professional calling in 1981 as a wealth management professional. For more than four decades, Kevin dedicated his career to helping individuals and families plan for their futures with wisdom, integrity, and genuine care.

While Kevin took great pride in his professional accomplishments, his greatest legacy is measured not by his career, but by the lives he touched.

Kevin's most profound personal achievement was his 44 years of continuous sobriety. As a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he faithfully attended meetings, sponsored countless newcomers, and dedicated much of his life to helping others find hope and lasting recovery.

Kevin was also an incredibly proud father of five sons, whom he raised with unwavering love, quiet strength, humor, faith, and an enduring example of perseverance. His greatest joy in recent years was watching his family continue to grow through his nine beloved grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

When he wasn't spending time with his family or helping others in recovery, Kevin could often be found on a golf course. Golf was one of his lifelong passions, providing not only friendly competition but lifelong friendships, unforgettable stories, and countless cherished memories.

Kevin is lovingly survived by his five sons and their families: Kevin (Kiera) and sons Harry, Emmett, and Buckley; Patrick and fiancée Cris; Michael (Claire) and children Reilly and Tully; Emmett (Lisa) and children Samuel, Emma, and Marc; and Ryan (Sarah) and daughter Nora; as well as his former spouse Patricia Sexton Walsh.

He is also survived by his siblings, John (Dia) Walsh, Mary (John) McHugh, and Therese "Tagger" (William) O'Brien; his beloved goddaughter, Molly Crawford; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, colleagues, fellow members of the recovery community, and all those fortunate enough to have called him mentor, sponsor, and friend.

Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maggi Shanahan Hamilton; his loving parents, John and Loretta Walsh, and by his dear sister, Loretta ("Lori") Walsh, whose passing in December 2025 was a profound loss to the family.

Kevin will be remembered for his steadfast faith, generous heart, quick wit, unwavering integrity, and extraordinary ability to make others feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether through his devotion to his family, his guidance in recovery, his love of golf, or the quiet acts of kindness he offered without expectation of recognition, he lived a life of purpose and service.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith, sobriety, compassion, and unconditional love will continue through the generations he leaves behind and the countless lives he forever changed.
