Obituary

Honorable Lisa Ruble Murphy of, Michigan City, IN formerly of Chicago, age 67. Loving mother of Brendan and Morgan (Kristen Koonce) Murphy IV. Proud grandmother of Nora Murphy. Former spouse and continuous friend of Morgan F. Murphy III.  Dear sister of Michelle (Dan Hebert) Murphy, Constance (Larry Doody) Murphy and Lyn (John) Kenneally. Fond aunt of Riley Doody, Will Kenneally, Brendan (Caroline) Hebert and Brieanne Rogus. Beloved daughter of the late David Ruble and Anne nee Heater. Cherished daughter-in-law of the late Morgan F. Murphy, Jr. and Charlene Diane nee Jurgensen.

In all facets of her life, Lisa lived with a focus on helping others, making everyone feel heard, and bringing people together to create impactful solutions. After graduating from Smith College in 1980, Lisa earned her juris doctorate degree, with honors, from Illinois Institute Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1984. After graduating from law school, Lisa was an attorney at Altheimer & Gray from 1987 until 1989, when she was named as a Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of the Chicago City Council Committee on Finance. In 1994, Lisa was named as a judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County in the Domestic Relations Division, where she served until her retirement in 2015. From 2015 through 2025, Lisa took her tremendous legal expertise and unique compassion into divorce mediation. Lisa's care for others extended outside of her professional life as well. Lisa was significantly involved with the Frances Xavier Warde (FXW) School, both with the FXW Parent Group Advisory Board and the FXW Board of Trustees, where she served as chair for a number of years. Her non-profit service also included UpBeat Music and Arts, and also serving on the boards of both the Children at the Crossroads Foundation and the Hope Institute Foundation. Lisa's focus on community also led her to spend her final years as a board member for Pottawattomie Golf Club in Michigan City, IN. Lisa was an intelligent woman with a sharp wit who was dedicated to helping others, and lived each day with an ever-lasting beam of sunshine and positivity. Lisa's spirit will live on and the optimism and life of service that she brought to her life will be remembered forever. She was a tremendous mother, friend, and advocate, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

All to meet Friday, January 16, 2026 at Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 700 W. Adams, Chicago for a visitation from 1:30 p.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m. (the mass will be live streamed and can be found at www.oldstpats.org). Interment private.
