Obituary

Margaret 'Peggy' Cullerton Hosty (75) of Westchester, IL and formerly of River Forest, IL, passed away on August 1, 2025. Loving mother of Alice (Bob Kolada) and the late Robert Emmett Hosty, Jr.; dear sister of John (Pam) Cullerton II, Mary Carroll Durand, Alice (Jim) Corcoran, Tom (Susan) Cullerton, Trish (Mike) Lynch, Patrick (Faith) Cullerton, Maureen (Jim) Leffler and Michael (Kai) Cullerton; precious daughter of the late Patricia (nee Tyrrell) and John 'Jack' Cullerton I; former spouse of the late Robert Emmett Hosty, Sr.; adored aunt of 34 nieces and nephews and too many cherished cousins to count.

Peggy was born in Chicago and raised in Winfield, IL. She was a graduate of Loyola University and earned a master's degree from DePaul University.

Peggy was an excellent scholar of the English language. She was passionate about passing her skills to her children, from taking turns reading age-advanced books aloud during their early years and proofreading their high school papers to regularly correcting their grammar and always believing in their potential to succeed. She valued her experience at Loyola University's Rome Center so much that she worked hard to provide them both with the same life-changing opportunity to study abroad.

Her energetic nature, kind spirit and engaging personality earned her a special place in the hearts of everyone she knew, and she knew A LOT of people. Peggy likewise put her whole heart into building an amazing community of loyal friends throughout her life and was committed to nurturing close-knit relationships within her strong Irish family and well beyond.

Her favorite commitment was to her eight siblings in a matriarchal role that extended from being chief of communications to caretaker and unofficial 'Boss of the Big House' at her favorite place – the 4 Acres – a treasured family compound on Lake Michigan. Her last visit to Michigan was spent playing on the beach with her great nephew and nieces with whom she had a special bond, ensuring she made a lasting impression on the fifth generation of Cullerton lake goers.

Peggy prided herself on being of service to family and friends and was a selfless giver of her time and positive energy. She could be counted on to add more fun to any celebration or immediate support during difficult times. This service included showing up with her famously coveted comfort dish (aka 'Peggy's dip') in tow. She was so well known for her dip that she always kept the main ingredient stocked in her fridge in case of emergency.

Peggy leaves an irreplaceable void from the center of her clan and core of her circle of friends. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who benefited from her exceptionally bright light.
