Obituary

Maria Turchan, age 70, of Elk Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Ascension Alexian Brothers - Hospice Residence.

Life and Legacy

Maria was born on April 30, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Dr. and Mrs. John Turchan. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1974 and later attended college and the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Not only was Maria known for her beauty and refined sense of fashion, she also left an indelible imprint of beauty and grace on the world. A talented artist, she created exquisite pen and ink drawings, and her love of flowers transformed her surroundings into a welcoming floral oasis.

Maria was a true sports lover. As a champion bowler her collection of winning trophies tested the limits of her shelf space. In her youth, she enjoyed attending Black Hawk's hockey games and White Sox baseball games with her father, but as a fiercely passionate football fan, she refused to make her exit until "da Bears" delivered one final Sunday win, enabling her to enter eternal rest on the heels of a glorious victory.

Maria is survived by her mother, Eleanor A. Turchan, and her siblings John E. Turchan, James E. Turchan, Lisa M. Turchan, and Laura A. Robinson, nee Turchan (and Stephen C. Robinson), her nieces, Megann E. Robinson and Ave C. Turchan. She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. John James Turchan, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Turchan, and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Paliatka.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Divine Providence Church, 2600 Mayfair Ave., Westchester, Illinois from 9:30am to 10:00am, immediately followed by a funeral mass. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1400 Wolf Road, Hillside, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Ascension Illinois Foundation, 800 Biesterfield Road, Brock Building (6B), Suite 2009, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, or online at Make a Gift Ascension Illinois Foundation, or https://share.google/LHd1E40dV6Yuta5og

The family would like to thank Ascension Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence for their loving care and support during this time.
