Drake

Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home
10:00 am - 1:00 pm (Central time)
A devoted and proud dad, loving grandfather who treasured his grandchildren, dedicated educator, gifted writer, and man of many talents, Michael Drake lived a full life.
An English, Speech and Drama teacher at Lyons Township High School for 34 years, he devoted himself to leaving a lasting impression on generations of students. His passion for learning extended far beyond the classroom.
Writing was one of his greatest passions. A natural storyteller with a vivid imagination, he wrote several plays, a musical, a detective novel, and a manuscript exploring the history of the Civil War. His fascination with the past also led him to pursue writing a book documenting the history of the Drake family. Recognizing the importance of preserving memories for future generations, he also shared his personal recollections and cherished family stories through StoryWorth, gifted by his daughter, leaving behind a priceless collection of memories in his own words.
He was a talented watercolorist, as well as a skilled furniture builder who took pride in creating beautiful and lasting pieces with his hands. He also enjoyed the game of golf (mainly the camaraderie) and music…self-taught at both.
His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Boge; his children, Darren Drake, Meghan Zielinski and her husband Angelo, LTC Nathaniel Drake and his wife LTC Maxine Drake; 5 grandchildren, Lucille and Henry Zielinski, Charlotte, Thomas, and Michael Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Dorothy Drake; brothers, Larry Drake (Martha) and Robert Drake (Anita).
Many thanks to The Pearl of Naperville and St. Croix Hospice. They provided expert care, dignity and comfort making Michael’s final journey peaceful. We are forever appreciative of their kindness.
