Pat
Scala
Aug 17, 1947 — May 3, 2025
Glenview and River Forest
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat Scala on May 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on August 17, 1947, in Chicago, IL, Pat was the beloved son of Robert and Leah Scala.
Pat attended Grace Lutheran School in River Forest, IL, and Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, IL, before graduating from Valparaiso University. He was a pillar of the food service industry in Chicago, proudly carrying on the legacy of his grandfather as the owner of Scala Packing Company, Inc., known for its iconic Italian beef and sausage. Pat's influence helped shape the Chicago food scene, and his contributions will be remembered with every combo sandwich served, dipped and topped with giardiniera.
A lifelong Cubs fan, Pat's love for the game extended far beyond the stands at Wrigley Field. From his youth through his later years, he was deeply involved in many sports. He was especially devoted to the baseball community, forming teams and leagues, and coaching countless young athletes, inspiring in them a love for the game.
He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir during his later years.
Above all, Pat found his greatest joy in his family. He never missed a chance to coach, support, and cheer on his kids, especially in their academic and athletic pursuits. Pat always encouraged us to see the best in people, no matter the circumstance, and he will forever be missed.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, laughter, and connection. His stories, warmth, and spirited outlook touched many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Pat was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Leah Scala. He is survived by his children; Bobby (Amy), Mickey (Lindsey Stinson), Christina (Dave Carpenter) and Victoria (PJ Heintz); and his grandchildren, Joey, Izzy, Fritz, Mo and Sophie.
