Patrick Wayne
Mccann
Feb 2, 1951 — Apr 3, 2026
La Grange formerly of Cicero
Patrick Wayne McCann of La Grange formerly of Cicero, age 75 went to be with his Savior on Good Friday, 2026. Beloved husband of Kathy, nee Dunovsky; loving father of Mark (Melissa) and Ryan McCann; proud grandfather of Molly and Myles; dear brother of William Denk and Arlene.
Those who knew him well knew him as a fun, charismatic, and deeply devoted Christian, husband, father, and friend — and he lived them in exactly that order. When Pat came home from work each day, he would immediately drop his briefcase and his suit and reach for two things: his kids, and then his guitar. He never missed a school function, a birthday, or a basketball game — no matter what was going on in his week. As kids do, his boys took that for granted while they were growing up. As adults, they came to understand just how deeply that priority shaped everything they became.
Pat McCann was a man who was all about relationships. To some he was a hero. To others, a role model. To others still, the loyal friend you could count on when the chips were down. He set the standard for loving his wife and caring for his family — whether that meant using his limited vacation time to go with his boys on an overnight school function, or working three and four jobs at once so that his wife and kids never had to feel the weight of hard times. He took the hits so his family didn't have to. The memories, the lessons, and the standards he set for how to love well, work hard, and have character — he would say, "have character, don't be one" — will echo for generations through his sons and the grandchildren he loved so dearly.
It always struck those who knew him that such a tough, resilient, hard-to-kill son of a gun became the sweetest grandfather imaginable — one who wouldn't hesitate to let his grandkids paint his whole head in cheap makeup, wrap him up in toilet paper, or sit and snuggle on the couch with them for hours. After, of course, he played and sang the Beatles catalog for them, and then settled in for Chicago Cubs stories — told with such love and conviction that among his grandchildren's earliest words were "Go, Cubs, go." It's usually the toughest ones who turn out to be the sweetest putty in the arms of their grandchildren. Poppy was dearly loved, and he will be sorely missed.
His greatest substory was his 50-year marriage to his wife, Kathy. She was his partner, his best friend, and at times, his partner in crime. Few people who knew Pat ever referred to him alone — it was always Pat and Kathy McCann. That devotion served him at home, at church, and across a sales career spanning more than 35 years. If you can measure a marriage by what it produced, Pat McCann had the most successful marriage most of us have ever seen. His roles as devoted husband, father, and grandfather were all a product of the life that he and Kathy built together over half a century.
Although we do not grieve as the world does — because of our hope in Christ's finished work on the cross — the silhouette Pat left on all of our lives will not be soon forgotten. He ran his race imperfectly, as we all do. But he ran his race well. Rest, Dad. You'll be in our hearts until we see each other in heaven."
