Fr. Vidal M. Martinez, O.S.M., passed away on February 23, 2026 at Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Fr. Martinez was a solemn-professed friar and priest in the Order of Friar Servants of Mary (Servites). He was born on April 28, 1948 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico; professed solemn vows in the Servite Order on September 15, 1973 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 10, 1975.

Fr. Vidal was preceded in death by his parents, Vidal and Ana (nee Flores), and brother Jose Luis. He is survived by his sisters Maria (late Luis) Morales; Carmen (Floriberto) Martinez Rodriguez; Rosa (Nelson) Martinez Alvarado and Margie Martinez; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fr. Martinez will be missed by many, including dear friends Luis A. Mendoza and family, Servite confreres and members of the Servite Secular Order around the world.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, 3121 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, with viewing beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
