Sondra Irene
Moran
Feb 26, 1944 — Sep 11, 2024
La Grange Park
Sondra Irene Moran, nee Siegel, age 80, resident of LaGrange Park, childhood in Sturgis, MI, passed away on 09/11/24 from an unexpected acute health crisis. Born on Feb. 26, 1944 in NJ to the late Abraham and Mary Siegel. Beloved wife of 44 yrs to the late Thomas Moran. A loving sister to Sara Peiken (Marv), Jan Siegel, and the late Joan Siegel. Proud Aunt to Adam Peiken (Jessica), Matthew Peiken (Nell), Chad Peiken (Becky) and loving Great Aunt to their children. Loving Stepmom to Heather Whittle (Mark) and Beth Royalty Dillard (Scott), proud Grandmother and Great Grandmother to their extended families. Mom to many cherished cats and dogs.
Sondra was a smart, loving, charismatic person who gave unconditional love to her family and friends. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. Sondra graduated from MSU. Retired medical technologist and retired Director for CEU meetings for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for many years.
Sondra was a constant caretaker throughout her life, never complaining about the sacrifices or demands this role included. Whether helping her spouse through cancer or taking care of her young siblings after the death of her parents, she made all feel secure and loved. Her mother died when she was 15 ½ yrs old, just a sophomore in High School, her father dying 1 yr later. Sondra took on the care of her siblings ages 6 and 8, delayed going to college 1 year, so her older sister Joan only 19 at the time of their mother's death could finish her college degree 1st so uninterrupted caretaking could occur. Her family was able to stay intact in their family home, also due to their loving guardian and relatives, Ralph and Renee Levin. Sondra told many funny stories of her siblings being raised by teenagers. All involved were given few rules, abundant desserts, and unique adventures. The younger siblings had a happy and secure childhood due to the resiliencies of both Sondra and her sister Joan. A legacy of meeting life's challenges while enjoying the blessings was passed on.
Sondra was known for hosting family Thanksgiving dinner. No one could duplicate her delicious Turkey or stuffing. Competitive billiards and games were a tradition. Sondra played to win always. Sharing in family events were a priority. Tom and Sondra shared a love for tennis, fine dining and beautiful resorts.
Sondra being with those she loved that passed before her, gives the family some comfort. She will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future. Donations, if desired, honoring her deceased husband are appreciated: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (givenow.lls.org). Arrangements entrusted to Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home. For info 708-562-5900.
