Sophia Acitelli, nee Gramatikakes, age 97, of St. Charles formerly of Villa Park, passed away peacefully. Beloved wife of the late Charles Acitelli, with whom she shared 74 wonderful years of marriage. Loving mother of Clem Acitelli, Mark Acitelli, and Charles (Rhonda) Acitelli. Cherished grandmother of Lacey, Sarah, Clem Jr. (Olivia), Chris, Anthony C. and Anna; proud great-grandmother of Anthony M. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Sophia was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Fontini Gramatikakes and her siblings, Anna (late Pete) Cotsilis and John (late Pat) Gramas.

A 1945 graduate of Proviso High School, Sophia later earned her associate degree from the College of DuPage. While raising her boys, she was an active presence in their education as a Room Mother at Swartz Elementary School and a Picture Lady at Villa Middle School, as well as being a Cub Scout Den Mother. She worked as a secretary in the family's heating and air conditioning business and later served as secretary for Midwest Oil Exploration, a company she and her husband ran together for over 30 years.

A devoted and active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, Sophia was a longtime parishioner at Holy Apostles in Westchester beginning in 1957 and later became involved with St. Athanasios in Aurora, where she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith, Sophia touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

Everyone will meet on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester for a Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
