Stephen Andrew Williams passed on November 29, 2025. Steve was born in California on December 17, 1942, lived most of his youth in Broadview, Illinois, attended Proviso High School, college at Illinois Institute of Technology and received a doctorate in Mathematics from California Institute of Technology. Steve was a rigorous and determined thinker who doggedly maintained a position after careful thought. He was devoted to academic life, teaching mathematics at University of Michigan, UCLA, and Wayne State University. Since retirement in 2007, he resided in Highland Park, Illinois and enjoyed daily breakfast at Walker Bros. Pancake House.

Steve was an avid bridge player, practiced piano, and exercised, ever careful of diet and nutrition.He was studiously alert to current events and obsessively read and underlined the Scientific American and New York Times .
