Terrence B.
Rice
Sep 29, 1949 — Jan 6, 2025
Oak Brook
Terrence B. Rice, age 75, of Oak Brook, former longtime resident of Oak Park, passed away January 6, 2025 surrounded by family. Beloved husband for 50 years of Kathleen (née Buckley), loving father of Jessica Richardson, Katie (Ed) Glavinskas, Margaret, and Stephen (Colleen Kelly). Proud Papa of Emily, Jack, Madeline, Bridget, Ava, Marty, and Bea; dear brother of Jim (Pat), Mike (Geri), Janet (Don) Cottler, Peggy Hennessy, and Kevin (Matthew); fond brother-in-law of Candy Rice and the Buckley family, caring uncle to many nieces and nephews, preceded in death by his brother Tim, sister Pam, and parents Jim and Anita.
Terry lived most of his life in Chicago's western suburbs. After graduating from Fenwick High School (class of 1967), he attended John Carroll University, graduating in 1971. He married the love of his life, Kathy, in June of 1974.
Terry made his living in the car business, most notably as dealer principal of Foley-Rice Cadillac-Oldsmobile for over 20 years. He took great pride in employing upwards of 75 people. His success was the result of hard work, dedication, and a moral obligation to do right by others.
Terry was a wealth of knowledge and a crossword puzzle enthusiast. He was not shy with opinion nor advice, perhaps a bit stubborn but truly a heart of gold. He was the number one fan of many, first and foremost his grandchildren. He loved baseball and bled Cubbie blue. He enjoyed the game of golf and friends marveled at his touch around the green. He loved rock and roll music, played it loud, and enjoyed sharing it with family, especially on cross-country road trips. Terry was a longtime parishioner at St. Giles and devoted supporter of his alma maters and charitable institutions like Misericordia.
Terry enjoyed a good time, his joy and warmth infectious. He treasured the company he kept, evidenced by a friend group celebrating New Years together for 60 years and counting. He was not short on stories, had incredible recall, and a knack for nicknames. Terry led with friendliness and generosity, chatting with anyone and everyone. An inspiration, a true legend; a rock star in his own right. His family and friends will miss him dearly. May he rest in heavenly peace, knowing the love he gave will continue to inspire and uplift those he left behind.
