Obituary

William Thomas Divane Jr., age 83, of Fontana, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, with his beloved wife, Jean, by his side. They shared more than 40 wonderful years together. He was born on May 7, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Elizabeth Divane.

Bill was educated in the Chicagoland area and graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1960. He went on to attend Georgetown University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1964.

Bill built the family business, Divane Brothers Electric, into one of the most respected electrical contracting companies in the Chicagoland area. Through his work, he helped illuminate the city of Chicago and left a lasting mark on the city he loved.

Bigger than life in every sense, Bill had a presence that could light up a room the moment he walked in. People naturally gathered around him to share in his warmth, laughter, and storytelling. Known for his charisma and remarkable sense of humor—especially his beloved Irish jokes—Bill took great pride in his Irish heritage and lived life to the fullest.

A man of deep faith, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was generous, loyal, and endlessly supportive of those he loved. His spirit was perfectly captured in the family motto he shared with those around him: "LLLG — Laugh, Love, Live, Give."

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Jean; his children: the late William Divane III (Suzanne) (Madeleine, Ian), John Lincoln Divane (Dacey, Finnegan), and Catherine Bonaccorsi (Thomas) (Cayden, Emmett, Colin). He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren: Theresa Frumkin (Kristian), (Margaret (Jonathan Ng), Clare, Kelly, Erin), Sarah Gramer-Berquet (Sebastian, Thomas), and Brendan Gramer (Laura) (Brett, Lucas).

Bill will be remembered not only for his remarkable professional accomplishments, but for the joy, laughter, generosity, and love he brought into the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends he inspired, and the countless lives he touched.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Old St. Patrick's Church, 700 W. Adams St., Chicago from 9:30 a.m. until the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. (the mass will be livestreamed-a watch video link is posted below). Interment Private.
