Obituary

Geoffrey Lee Woitel, "Geoff" age 49, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 24th at his home in Norwood Park with his loving family by his side and 200 of his closest friends supporting him just outside. Geoff was born at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL on January 11, 1972 and grew up in Oak Park. Survived by his former wife Liz Nicalek Woitel and their children, Sophie and Jack Woitel. Loving son of John and Marilyn Woitel. Devoted brother of Kathy (Robert) Flynn, Frank (Genelyn) Woitel, Lara Haben, Michael Woitel and the late Christopher Woitel. Amusing uncle of Jennifer Haben, Kaitlyn & Meghann Flynn, Melvin & Gary Woitel, and Zachary, Alayna, & Gabriel Woitel. Lastly, Geoff's numerous friends also considered him part of their own family as well. Geoff is a proud graduate of St. Giles elementary in Oak Park, Fenwick high school in Oak Park, and Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Over the years, Geoff's career in the Chicago Police Department extended from Austin/15th District, the Education & Training Division, Detective in Arson Section, and Detective in Area North. Quick with a joke for any occasion, Geoff's personality drove him to lighten the mood when the situation called for it. His family and friends will miss his humor. Decorated with the Superintendent's Award of Valor, Geoff was dedicated to his fellow officers as well as serving and protecting his community. His profession will miss his expertise and enthusiasm. When not working, Geoff could be found rooting on his daughter Sophie at volleyball tournaments or his son Jack at baseball games. His family will miss his spirit and thoughtfulness. Geoff has left a lasting impression on all of those with whom he came into contact over the years. We ask that you share your memories of Geoff with us at VidHug.com .
